We’re deliriously excited about this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, which gets into full swing later today in a COVID-friendly digital-only format.
In fact, going virtual means this the most accessible Comic-Con in the event’s 51-year history – which is great for us, you, geeks and pop culture fans everywhere.
SDCC runs until Sunday (July 26) and you can watch the entire panel session programme, which starts today, live online for free – simply click here to watch the whole thing unfold on YouTube.
What’s more amazing is that despite going online-only, there are still some 400 sessions taking place you can find them all here but to make your life easier we’ve picked out 6 that we don’t think you should miss…
Star Trek Universe – Thursday July 23 6pm BST
What better place to start than Star Trek? Led by show runners Heather Kadin and Alex Kurtzman, this session will offer broad discussion of the Star Trek franchise and where it’s heading (second star to the right and straight on ’til morning?), plus deep dives into Discovery and Picard with cast and crew, including Patrick Stewart himself.
Truth Seekers – Thursday July 23 8pm BST
How’s this for a slice of fried gold? A welcome return of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg collaborating with James Serafinowicz (Sick Note), and Nat Saunders (Sick Note). It’s an eight-episode series about a team of part-time paranormal investigators who team up to uncover and film ghost sightings across the UK, sharing their adventures on an online channel for all to see. Expect a supernatural sitcom, as british as a nice cup of tea and a chocolate hobnob. Truthseekers drops onto Amazon Prime later in the year.
The New Mutants – Thursday July 23 10pm BST
Originally slated for April this year, we still don’t have a confirmed release date for The New Mutants and that makes us sad. What’s makes us happy is that we’ll get to hear from writer/director Josh Boone, plus stars Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Anya Taylor Joy and more at SDCC. X-Men fans miss this at your peril.
Marvel Comics: The Next Big Thing – Friday July 24 7pm BST
What’s going on in the world of Marvel away from the big screen? Find out as the comic book giant’s editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski introduces some of its leading writers to talk about Empyre, X of Swords and, most excitingly, the return of the Green Goblin in the Amazing Spider-Man. Our senses are tingling.
AMC’s The Walking Dead – Friday July 24 8pm BST
If you’re anything like us, then you’re clawing at the windows for the arrival of A Certain Doom, the 16th and final episode of The Walking Dead’s 10th season. Luckily the show is celebrating over decade of appearances at SDCC with a panel comprising stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and more, which will help tide us over until the season finale airs.
The Simpsons @ Home – Saturday July 25 7pm BST
Can you believe The Simpsons has been going for 31 seasons and a whopping 684 episodes? It makes us feel old. Wait, we are old. But they’ve also had a tough time this year like everyone else – in a panel chaired by Yeardley Smith AKA Lisa Simpson, you’ll hear from Al Jean, Matt Selman, David Silverman and more on how coronavirus hasn’t got in the way of season 32.
