LISTEN | THE MYSTERINES – REELING
Debut album from The Mysterines – a bunch of scousers full of swagger and a big grunge-rock sound. You may well have already heard them getting plenty of airtime on BBC 6 Music – lead vocalist Lia Metcalfe’s haunting tone will stick with you.
LISTEN | HARD FEELINGS
Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and Amy Douglas pair up to create an album they describe as an “opera of sad bangers,”. Goddard delivers the synths, whilst Douglas, who has previously collaborated with the likes of Horse Meat Disco and Roisin Murphy, comes through with the vocals. It’s a winning combo, and from personal experience, plays out best in the kitchen at parties that are likely to be going on a while longer.
WATCH | FORMULA 1 – EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX
F1 returns to Imola, host of one of last season’s most dramatic races. Much to the delight of the Tifosi, Ferrari will be firm favourites having grasped this season’s new aero regulations better than anyone else, but with plenty of incidents in last year’s race, the addition of the first sprint race of the season on Saturday only increases the jeopardy.
Lights out at 14:00 on Sunday .
WATCH | WE OWN THIS CITY
If you’re lucky enough to be in the US, We Own This City lands on HBO Max on Monday. The team behind the greatest TV show ever made, The Wire, head back to Baltimore for a limited 3-part series, taking another gritty look at the societal effects of flawed policies and corrupt policing. John Bernthal stars, with Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard) directing.
If you’re here in the UK, it’s expected to hit Sky/NowTV sometime in June.
VISIT | RECORD STORE DAY – SAT 23rd APRIL
Yes, it’s that day each year when a load of popstars release limited edition vinyl that nobody asked for! Either way, it’s a nice opportunity to get out and support your local record store and rifle through their crates. If you happen to love records AND plants, then I’d recommend getting yourself over to Shrubs & Dubs on Hackney road, as for every dub you buy, they’ll give you a free shrub. If you don’t like free plants, or East London, then you can head over to https://recordstoreday.co.uk/events/ to find out what else is going on.
